3. Cadillac’s Touring Edition – 1912
Henry Ford initially founded Cadillac, but left after a dispute. The company kept going, and in 1912, came out with the Touring Edition. This is the model that established Cadillac as a maker of luxury cars by introducing the electric starter. Before this, people started their cars by cranking the engine by hand. This was a dangerous method as it was common for people to get broken thumbs and injured wrists. The Cadillac Touring Edition also attracted women drivers since one did not have to be strong to start a car. Cadillac took advantage of it by having women in their advertisements.
