Dealerships don’t hire salespeople based on their car knowledge. They hire them to push a product. More often than not, the person selling you a car is neither a mechanic nor an enthusiast, and he may be only vaguely familiar with the model you’re looking at.
Rather than selling a car based on its technical specs, car salesmen rely on emotional tactics. They will focus on how a car makes you feel. It’s important to do your own research so that you know what your new car is capable of before you step on the lot. Know this ahead of time so you can be sure your decisions are based on logic rather than emotions.
