5. iOS CarPlay

CarPlay is the Apple standard developed to allow full integration of an iPhone within a vehicle’s infotainment system. The technology delivers full support for navigation, music, and hands-free telephony functions within the vehicle for owners of cars, trucks, and SUVs that support the technology. The app does require the mobile owner to have at least an iPhone 5 or newer with a minimum of iOS 7.1 installed for support. Similar to Android Auto, CarPlay can be retrofitted into legacy trucks and SUVs with the right aftermarket vehicle audio hardware upgrade. Unlike Android apps; however, developers must apply to Apple to have their apps available for use in CarPlay mode. Some of the available apps include: iMessage, iBooks, Apple Maps, Music, Phone, Spotify, and CBS Radio.
