6. Nissan Rogue
The Nissan Rogue is a no frills approach to the crossover market. A 170 horsepower four-cylinder is housed under the hood, mated to a CVT transmission. Either front wheel or all-wheel drive is available. The interior has room to seat seven, and is styled with an upscale feel. The Rogue gets good gas mileage, with 25 city and 32 highway estimated. The suspension handles body movement well, and does a fine job of absorbing road imperfections. The steering is a bit numb, so drivers will need to be attentive. The Rogue is an economical choice for a crossover SUV, if you need a good deal of cargo space or you have a group of kids you need to get to and from various activities.
