The diesel powered 2016 BMW 535d is the brand’s attempt at a mid-size luxury car. With prices starting at $51,195, the sedan is less expensive than it’s competitors. The competition include the Mercedes-Benz E-class and Jaguar XF. Equipped this year with a 3.0 liter V6 diesel, the powerhouse under the hood develops 255 horsepower. It is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Topped with a curb weight of just over two tons, the 535d gets 26 miles / gallon city and 38 on the highway. The BMW can hold up to 14 cubic feet of cargo space. Diesel maniacs may also like the 3 series diesel models which come in a bit cheaper than the upgraded 5 series models. The next car in the lineup is more expensive than the BMW, but does offer standard all-wheel drive.
