10. 1982 Ford Mustang GT
The 1982 Ford Mustang GT marked the return of the 5.0 Mustang that many enthusiasts still love today. The “Fox Body” had been used since 1979 and no one seemed to care about performance anymore. The most powerful Mustang in 1981 used a weak 115 horsepower 4.2 liter engine. The 82 Mustang GT had a high output 4.9 liter small block engine that produced 157 horsepower. The re-engineered 302 consisted of new valves, a more aggressive cam, a larger twin-barrel carburetor, and a revised firing order, as well as a better breathing intake and exhaust system. It doesn’t sound like much compared to today’s standards, but it started a horsepower war that is still going strong 33 years later.
