9. Ford Galaxie
The Ford Galaxie was the building block that lead to the Crown Victoria. A full size car that was built between 1959 and 1974, the Galaxie was named as such in an effort to capitalize on the excitement surrounding the Space Race. Although it was separate from the Fairlane 500, the first run Galaxie models carried the Fairlane 500 badge as well. Like many cars of the era, the Ford Galaxie was had chrome and stainless steel accents and a two-tone paint job. Seat belts, a padded dashboard, and child door locks were optional on the Galaxie. A convertible top Galaxie, with the trim name “Skyliner” was also available. The retractable hardtop folded down into the trunk and left very little trunk space when stored there. The engine was a 352 V-8 that produced 300 horsepower.
