The Model J was a luxury vehicle manufactured by Duesenberg in 1928. It was designed to be the biggest, fastest, most expensive vehicle of its day. The supercharged Model J’s power output of 320hp and top speed of 104mphs were astonishing for its time. It was a story of short lived greatness, however. E.L. Cord bought the Duesenberg Motor Company in 1926 and commissioned Fred Duesenberg to build his dream car. In 1928 the car debuted, and in 1929 the stock market crashed; the Great Depression had begun. By 1937 E.L. Cord’s fortune was gone and Duesenberg, Inc. shut its doors. Recently Duesenberg’s have been auctioned off for as much as $4.5 million.
