6. Mercedes 300SL
Top speed: 140 MPH
The Mercedes 300SL was the first SL-Class grand tourer produced by the company, and in addition to being the fastest production car of the time, also includes gull wing doors. The auto was produced as a two seat automobile, and it would later evolve to an open roadster model. The car was one of the first to feature direct fuel injection, and it was heavily based on the 1952 W194 model that was a carbureted overhead cam shaft straight 6. The 300SL is powered by 3.0 liter six cylinder engine, and has a four-speed gear box linked to the rear axle of the vehicle. The top speed of the car is 140 MPH (Mercedes claimed 161 MPH at the time), and it has a zero to 60 MPH time of just 7.4 seconds.
