22. Oldsmobile Aurora
The Aurora was a mid-size luxury sports sedan built by Oldsmobile. The Aurora was Oldsmobile’s high end sports car in the late 90’s. Under the hood the Aurora had a V8 engine based on the Cadillac Northstar V8. The engine had an output of 250 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The automatic transmission featured driver selectable “normal” and “powershift” modes. The suspension was well built, handling road imperfections easily and at the same time offering stability. Overall the Aurora had a very well balanced ride. The Aurora gained praise for its power and handling, but was even more regarded for its structural integrity. During normal crush-to-failure tests done by automakers to evaluate body rigidity, the Aurora’s unibody construction actually broke GM’s testing machine.
