8. Border Patrol Dune Buggy
Perhaps one of the coolest automobiles in use in the United States, the Border Patrol Dune Buggy is an extreme police vehicle designed for use on the border with Mexico. Officially named the Desert Patrol Vehicle (DPV), the automobile is fitted out with a VW engine that is rated just shy of 200 HP. The vehicle is rated at speeds of up to 80 MPH, and is designed to withstand wide temperature ranges. Designed to provide the Border Patrol with an auto that can reach areas considered too extreme for the organization’s SUVs, it fills a critical niche for defense of the homeland. The vehicles were first made famous by former President George W. Bush taking a ride in Arizona in 2006, and they also find use by the United States military and Special Forces.
