A 1936 Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster was sold on August 19, 2012 by Gooding & Company in Pebble Beach, California for $11,770,000 USD. The sale made the auto one of the most expensive ever sold at a car auction. The car was first introduced at the 1936 Paris Motor Show, and was one of the largest cars of its time. The eight cylinder engine of the car was expanded from 500 to 5,401 cubic centimeters that used twin pressurized updraft carburetors to aspirate the engine which is rated at 115 horsepower. Mercedes-Benz also includes an attached Roots supercharger that can be manually engaged or automatically by pressing the accelerator to the floor to increase the power to 180 horsepower with a top speed of 110 MPH.
