A 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540K Spezial sold for $9,680,000 at auction on August 20, 2011 at RM Auctions in Monterey, California. The auto is one of the most expensive cars sold at auction. The car was a subsequent design following the 500K, and was one of the largest cars of its time sold. The car is powered by a 5,401 cc engine rated at 115 horsepower. When the driver desires additional horsepower, there is an attached Roots supercharger that can be automatically engaged by pressing the gas pedal to the floor to increase the power to a whopping 180 horsepower and max speed of 110 MPH (170 KM/Hr).
