3. Dukes of Hazzard’s Charger

The 1969 Dodge Charger driven by those rascally Duke cousins Bo and Luke is one of television’s most famed cars. Known affectionately as The General Lee, the car’s name reference’s General Robert E. Lee, commander of the Confederate Army, and bears a Confederate flag on its roof. The horn plays Dixie when sounded. The concept for the car was developed from the bootlegger Jerry Rushing’s car, which he named after General Lee’s horse, Traveller. According to Ben Jones, who played Cooter on the show, Dukes of Hazzard used 320 General Lees throughout the filming of the series. About one Charger was used up per episode, as the cars were put through various jumps and other damaging stunts. Stunt drivers reported enjoying the flights but dreading the landings.
