Top speed: 145 MPH
The 1968 Ford Mustang GT Fastback is one of the most popular classic cars of all time. The 1968 edition of the Mustang GT featured a new engine from Ford at the time. The engine was the Cobra Jet 6.4 liter V-8 rated at 335 horsepower making it one of the fastest production sedans to ever be built at the time. The car was also sold in coupe and convertible versions for the 1968 model year, and the Cobra Jet engine was available for purchase in the cars through 1970. The 1968 model year also saw Ford make an attempt to improve the overall safety of the auto with a two-spoke energy absorbing steering wheel, the rearview mirror moved from the frame to the windshield of the car, and newly introduced should belts to the car’s seat belts. The 68 Fastback is one of the more famous Mustangs of this era due to it being featured in the movie Bullitt starring Steve McQueen.
