2016 Buick Encore Small Crossover Improved for Safety and Handling
As a small crossover, the Encore from Buick has both a standard-feature rear camera and forward collision alert as an option. Scoring a “good” rating in the IIHS small overlap frontal testing, this year’s model is greatly improved from the 2014 version that ranked as “poor” in this category. The new Encore comes with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel-drive that is equipped with an electronic torque transferring casing to maintain engagement of the rear axle clutch up to a speed of 37mph. As speed increases, the clutch disengages and changes to front-wheel drive mode. Both frontal and rear torque bias is 50/50. Due to its weighty 3200 pounds, the Encore is not a fast-moving or maneuvering vehicle. However, it moves quick enough to please crossover enthusiasts with its low-end turbo power and turbo lag is low-level.
