6. Jeep Patriot

A classic in the small SUV world, the Jeep Patriot is one that people choose time and again. As far as safety ratings, that’s for good reasons too. Jeep has made vast improvements in the past few years. One such change is the inclusion of side collision airbags as a standard. These are only available as an upgrade on the 2014 models of the Patriot.

As far as crash safety ratings, the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety gave its top ratings in moderate overlap front, strength of the roof, head rests, seats, and side collision. The only area where the Patriot suffered is the same we have mentioned for other small SUVs. It did receive a poor rating in small front overlap, but even in the safest SUV models, this seems to be a common problem.
