Kia hasn’t always been known for larger vehicles. Once upon a time, almost every car that the manufacturer offered was rather small. However, the Sportage does fit in the small SUV category, and that means it offers plenty of passenger seating and cargo space. It fits on the safe small SUV list for good reason. After all, it has received top ratings in moderate overlap front, side collision, roof strength, seats and head rests.

The ratings for the Sportage could mimic those of the Jeep Patriot and several other compact SUVs we have listed here. It has a poor rating on small overlap front. However, this doesn’t detract much from safety when measured against other SUVs since this is a common concern.
