6. 2015 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid
MPG 42 / Hwy 48
Unlike many hybrid variations of gasoline cars, the Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid feel like a normal gas powered car when driving down the road. The electric motor works seamlessly with the gas motor, with no awkward stutters or shakes when the gas motor kicks on and off. The Jetta Hybrid is powered by both a 1.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline motor and an electric motor that gets its energy from a rear-mounted battery pack. Together they produce 170 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. Being a dual-mode hybrid, the Jetta Hybrid can shut the gas motor off when it’s not needed. Even though the Jetta Hybrid has a reasonable amount of power, it doesn’t suffer from a lack of fuel economy, having an EPA estimated 42 mpg city and 48 mpg highway.
