The Jetta Hybrid is powered by both a 1.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline motor and an electric motor that gets its energy from a rear-mounted battery pack. Together they produce 170 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. Being a dual-mode hybrid, the Jetta Hybrid can shut the gas motor off when it’s not needed. Even though the Jetta Hybrid has a reasonable amount of power, it doesn’t suffer from a lack of fuel economy, having an EPA estimated 42 mpg city and 48 mpg highway.
