The Toyota Prius offers great fuel economy at the cost of speed and performance. The tiny 1.8 liter four-cylinder engine and electric motor combine to make 134 horsepower. Getting from zero to sixty takes an excruciatingly long 10 seconds, making highway merging or passing a chore. When driven in the most efficient manner, the Prius gets an estimated 51 mpg city and 48 mpg highway. The suspension does a good job of giving you a smooth ride, but aggressive driving can cause understeer. The Prius is great for long commutes or leisurely drives, shining brightest when not under heavy loads, but if you want great gas mileage and decent power, you may need to look elsewhere.
