7. Publicly Shop Around
Your primary goal when buying a new or used car is to get the best value for your money with the least amount of effort. A proven technique when negotiating with car dealerships is to be very open with your salesperson about having a target price, and that you are planning to compare your offers with other dealerships if they are not willing to work with you on the price. If the salesperson does come down to your initial offer, then you may still have a chance to comparison shop; however, this will depend on the amount of patience that you have for spending time at the dealerships in your local area. Even if you get turned down by several dealerships on your initial offer, this doesn’t mean that you either won’t find one that will deal with you, or that you won’t get a good deal on a follow-up visit or phone call.
