18. Mitsubishi FTO
The Mitsubishi FTO was a front wheel drive sports car that came with an inline-4 or V-6 engine. The name FTO stood for “Fresh Touring Origination.” Originally intended for production exclusively in the Japanese market, the FTO’s popularity on the grey market prompted Mitsubishi to release it in the UK, Ireland, and New Zealand. Upon it’s debut, the FTO received the Car of the Year Japan Award for 1994-95. The special edition GPX model had the strongest motor of the different trim levels, with 197 horsepower. In commemoration of its win at the Car of the Year Japan awards, Mitsubishi produced a limited edition version of the GPX model with special badges and a unique dandelion yellow paint scheme.
