4. Toyota 2000GT
The Toyota 2000GT is considered the first collectible Japanese car and is Japan’s first supercar. Released in 1967, the 2000GT revolutionized the world’s view of Japan when it came to car manufacturer, as prior to its release they were viewed as building imitative and practical vehicles. The engine of the 2000GT was a longitudinally mounted straight-6 with three two-barrel carburetors, producing 150 horsepower. A five-speed manual transmission was the only available option. A limited slip differential and power assisted brakes were also standard; a first for a Japanese car. The styling of the 2000GT is considered a classic, with smooth flowing lines and pop-up headlights. A special open-top version of the vehicle was built for the James Bond film You Only Live Twice.
