8. Dodge Grand Caravan
Earning a “poor” in the small overlap front test earned the Dodge Grand Caravan a low safety rating. Driver space was seriously compromised by intruding structure. Lower interior intrusion measured 39 cm at the lower hinge panel. The parking brake pedal was pushed back 36 cm into the dummy’s left lower leg. The door sill was pushed laterally 20 cm toward the driver, and the steering column was pushed back 17 cm. Measurements from the dummy indicated injuries to the left knee, hip, and lower leg were likely in a crash of this severity. The dummy’s left lower leg was gouged and torn by the parking brake pedal, and the left knee was torn by a steel brace. The dummy’s head barely contacted the airbag before sliding off the left side as the steering column moved 22 cm to the right, contributing to the dummy’s head striking the instrument panel.
