12. 1953 General Motors Firebird 1 XP-21
The 1953 GM Firebird 1 XP-21 is one of several concept cars developed by GM in the 1950s to showcase the extremes in design and technology the company was capable of for producing automobiles. The XP-21 was basically an early model jet put on four wheels with a bubble cockpit and a tail fin. The car definitely qualifies as one of the oddest that you will see since there are not that many jet turbines on the highway. The XP-21’s engine could generate 26,000 RPM which produced an impressive 370 horsepower for the auto. The auto weighs just 2,500 lbs, and the wheel base was set to 100 inches. Today, the XP-21 is on display at the Henry Ford Museum located in Dearborn, Michigan along with other concept cars created by GM from the same timeframe.
