5. Do Your Research
Although the playing field for consumers has been significantly leveled with the amount of information available online for new car purchases, most shoppers fail to do any research before shopping for a new car. By taking the time to compare features, resale value, options, and gas mileage before going to the car lot, one can avoid the dreaded “impulse” purchase by being armed with the right data. Car dealers are in the business to make a sale, and will try to upsell options or less popular car models when possible. Doing one’s homework helps reduce the probability that the dealer will make more money from the sale than absolutely necessary.
