11. The Top Speed of the Google Car is 25 MPH

To date, Google has only been targeting their driverless vehicle in urban areas. The top speed of the prototype Google Car is only 25 MPH. The current speed limitation makes the current Google Car appropriate for U.S. urban areas. In order to make the vehicle attractive for consumer use, the company will need to increase the overall top speed of the auto in order to gain any significant market share in the Midwest or non-urban localities in the U.S. Similarly, the current two seat model will not be attractive to consumers who demand larger cargo space for either family or work related hauling. Once Google and other auto manufacturers successfully demo, test, and deploy the smaller autos, it is expected that the high-end speed and cargo space in the vehicles will be increased to meet consumer demand.
