3. Disadvantages of Self-Driving Autos
Despite the number of advantages that will come with driverless vehicles, there are a number of disadvantages to driverless vehicles as well. Initially, experts predict that one of the biggest barriers to widespread adoption of self-driving vehicles will be how liability for damage is determined by different states in the U.S. or countries abroad. Additionally, many expect to see significant resistance by individual auto operators to give up full control of their vehicles to a computer. This disadvantage will be magnified if there are any software reliability issues with production vehicles as they hit the market. The detailed maps that these vehicles will require to properly transport auto passengers are expected to be more costly than traditional maps. This cost may create an additional barrier to consumer adoption of self-driving automobiles in the United States and other countries leading the way for autonomous vehicle adoption.
