12. Don’t Forget Snow Chains

One of the biggest survival tips to riving in Alaska is to always keep snow chains in one’s automobile. Even if it is in the middle of the Alaskan summer, the wise driver will have chains stored in the trunk or cargo area of their vehicle. The weather can turn very quickly throughout the state, and it is not unusual to get snow out of season on short notice. The last thing you want to do is trust either Mother Nature or winter tires when it comes to some of the snow and ice that can accumulate on the roadways throughout the state. The further north you go, the more likely it is that the unexpected can happen. Chains are relatively easy to put onto just about any type of vehicle, and if you don’t know how to put them on, most locals will be happy to help explain to you how to put them on the vehicle.
