12. Nissan R35 GT-R
Formerly known as the “Skyline GT-R,” Nissan’s sports coupe has been a fixture in the Japanese market since the 1960s. Despite the fact that few people had ever seen one in person, anime series like “Initial D” and videogames such as “Gran Turismo” had been building up excitement for the GT-R among North American audiences for years. Then, in 2008 the very first North-American-market GT-R was released. The R35 was a legitimate super car in every sense of the word. It featured a high-tech twin-turbo V-6, a dual clutch semi-automatic transmission and Nissan’s ATTESA E-TS all-wheel-drive system.
